What’s in a BHAG?

Big Hairy Audacious GoalsIn the previous post, we have mentioned the importance of identifying goals through simply recognizing your wants and needs. In this post, we will continue it through recognizing your BHAG.

The term BHAG stands for Big, Hairy, and Audacious Goals. The term has been used in business and coaching circles. It is coined to goals that will affect and let you see the bigger picture. Suppose by the time you read this, you have fully recognized the goals that you really need to accomplish. Now it’s time to get your BHAG. How will you identify the goals that qualify as your BHAG? Rethink the goals that you have in your life today. Which among those goals will have the biggest impact in your life and certainly will allow you to see the grand picture?

Its like categorizing your goals from the ones with the minimum impact up to the ones that could change the course of your life. Through this way, you will be able to work out the goals in a certain progression – one goal could lead to the accomplishment of the other goal. We can also say that your BHAG also represent your personal milestones in life. If you create a timeline for your goals, then certainly, you will be able to see the BHAGs that will allow you to direct the course of your life.

This is also to say that we should never be afraid of dreaming big dreams and make an effort to turn them into bigger realities. Of course, some of you may hesitate, simply because out of the fear of failure or uncertainty. Life is made up of failures and uncertainties. We only make life worth living if we are able to face our fear of failures and uncertainties. Life is not made perfect but for us to enjoy it, we should welcome challenges and changes once in a while.

So get on, dream big and realize the BHAGs among your goals.

See you on my next post.
